From summer 2025, Lufthansa will allow its passengers on long-haul flights to chat for an unlimited period of time. This allows travelers in all classes to send and receive messages, including photos, using common apps such as WhatsApp or iMessage. The new service, which is already a success on short and medium-haul flights, is now intended to improve the travel experience on long-haul flights as well.
“The introduction of this offer is an important step in further expanding the service for our guests,” explained Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group. Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer of Lufthansa Airlines, added that the ability to communicate digitally during flights is a basic need for many customers and is increasingly playing a role in their choice of airline.
The Lufthansa subsidiaries SWISS and Austrian Airlines also want to offer this service on selected long-haul flights. Free chatting has been successfully implemented on short and medium-haul flights by Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines since 2024.
With this measure, the Lufthansa Group is increasingly relying on digital services to increase customer comfort and meet the changing expectations of passengers.
