For reasons that are still unclear, the ATR72-500 with the registration 9N-ANC crashed in Nepal on Sunday. According to official figures, there were 68 passengers and four crew members on board. The turboprop aircraft was operated by Yeti Airlines.
The ATR72-500 merges under flight number YT691 en route from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The crash happened on Sunday morning while approaching the destination airport. The authorities are currently saying that none of the occupants survived the accident. The cause is still completely unclear and has yet to be determined by accident investigators.
The posted video, which appears to have happened to be taken immediately, shows the 9N-ANC flying a turn before the crash. The turboprop aircraft could possibly have been traveling too slowly for an unclear reason and lost lift.
In general, Nepal does not have a good reputation when it comes to aviation security. Numerous airlines, including Yeti Airlines, which was affected by the accident, are on the so-called black list of the European Union. This means that these EU airports are not allowed to fly. Serious accidents have repeatedly occurred in Nepal in recent years. For example, a Tara Air DHC-6 Twin Otter had an accident in May 2022. All 22 people lost their lives.
