aviation: Austrian Airlines is introducing pre-order meals on short- and medium-haul routes

With the new PreOrder option, Economy Class passengers can specify in advance which dish they would like to be served on their flight from the Austrian Melangerie menu. Payment is made on board.

The Lufthansa subsidiary introduces a new service. Meals can now be pre-ordered on short and medium-haul flights with a flight time of 50 minutes or more. Passengers can now pre-order their favorites online, up to 48 hours a month before departure. This is to ensure that the desired meal is actually available on board, according to the carrier in a press release. The pre-order offer only includes hot meals and sandwiches, and a passenger can pre-order a maximum of five meals in total.

“With Austrian Melangerie PreOrder, we are offering our passengers on short and medium-haul routes another plus in service. At the same time, with the pre-order, we are taking a certain step towards more sustainability and against food waste thanks to increased predictability, » says Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl.

In the past, Austrian Airlines had a comparable offer. This was already discontinued before the Corona pandemic and was not reactivated in the course of the introduction of paid catering on board. Now the pre-order menus have been launched again in a modified form.
