The government of North Macedonia actually wanted to expand air traffic from Skopje and Ohrid with the help of subsidies. The tender has now been withdrawn in order to publish an updated one shortly.
So far, Wizz Air, Lufthansa and Aegean Airlines had applied for grants. Among other things, the government banned the applications from the three carriers mentioned from being ineligible for approval because the airlines are said to have submitted incomplete documents. The tender, which had to be canceled twice beforehand, is now being repeated again.
